John Peart is a civil servant working for the UK Government, specialising in digital and technology policy. Since joining the UK Civil Service in 2013, John has worked in a variety of policy and delivery roles including at the Government Digital Service, at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, and presently, at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.

With over 10 years experience working in central government, he has led the delivery of web accessibility and telecommunications security legislation; advised UK government ministers on public service transformation, digital infrastructure, and cyber security policy; and he is now responsible for governance and oversight functions of the UK’s growing digital identity market.
In his current role, John is responsible for establishing the UK’s new “governing body” for digital identity – the Office for Digital Identities and Attributes – and for the implementation of the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill.
